Jan. 7, 2020 -- A community forum on the dangers of vaping has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, in the large group instruction (LGI) room at Marcellus High School.

The forum originally was set for Dec. 2, but had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

The event will feature presentations from the following guest speakers:
  • Dr. Jana Shaw of SUNY Upstate Medical University;
  • Lee Livermore of SUNY Upstate Poison Center;
  • Dr, Michael Fallon, DDS; and
  • Jessica Mozo from the Prevention Network.

Did you know?

By 2017, more than 2 million teenagers were using e-cigarettes, and e-cigarettes surpassed combustible cigarettes as the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. middle and high school students, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

School districts are increasingly encountering these battery-operated vaping devices, often marketed as a healthier, safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, as students use them to inhale nicotine, THC and various synthetic chemicals.

Research has shown that many youth try—and then continue to use—vape devices because of the appeal of the tasty “juice” flavors that they vaporize, creating an aerosol that is inhaled. Students often don’t realize the inherent health risks associated with inhaling these vapors.
