Marcellus students present fall show, ‘Steel Magnolias,’ Sept. 27-28
Sept. 26, 2019 -- In a new twist, Marcellus Central Schools will present two fall shows this year, and the curtain rises on the first one, “Steel Magnolias,” this weekend.
Inspired by real events in playwright Robert Harling’s own family and Louisiana hometown, the 1987 play introduces audiences to a lovable group of flinty, quick-witted, sometimes sharp-tongued Southern women. Many probably will remember the 1989 film adaptation starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field and Shirley MacLaine.
The Marcellus production, which stays faithful to the original stage version by featuring just six female roles, will showcase the talents of the following students:
Tori Sayre as Truvy
Avery Sadler as Annelle
Jack McAuliff as Clairee
Delaney Glass as Shelby
Abby Hoag as M'Lynn
DiAnna Markham as Ousier
and Jake Orlandella as the radio DJ
“The cast and crew have done an incredible job to bring the production together in four short weeks,” faculty adviser Ryann Riefler said. “The show has provided the cast with a lot of new experiences, and we are looking forward to an incredible weekend.”
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the DMS auditorium. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door or online by clicking on this link.
