Marcellus Central Schools Summer Reading Program
June 10, 2022
Dear MCS Parents and Students,
To promote lifelong reading and maintain literacy skills over the next few months, students in grades 6-12 (including OCC English) are required to read a book over the summer. Each student is responsible for reading one book and completing the provided graphic organizer. Please note that both AP Language and AP Literature students will be given a separate summer reading assignment to complete.
To assist students with choosing a book, we are providing some lists of recommended reading. All of the texts on the lists have strong literary merit; they do, however, vary in both text complexity and maturity of content. Therefore, parents should work with their student to decide upon an appropriate title prior to making a text selection. Reviewing the texts by visiting either the Amazon or Barnes and Noble website would be beneficial. Students can also choose a book outside of the provided lists, but all books should be at the student’s grade-level. The summer reading lists can be found on the district website and at the Marcellus Free Library. There are also many options for the format of the books, such as digital copies, audio books, as well as the printed books. Please consult the district website for links to each of these options. If acquiring a text is a hardship for your family, please contact the Main Office so we can help accommodate your needs.
We hope the assigned summer read will be one of many books your child will read and enjoy this summer. Thank you for supporting our efforts to promote a culture that values reading and all the benefits it affords.
Sincerely,
Kathy Rein
